Stata under ESS

Hello ESS users

I am using Stata 6.0  under ESS (5.1.19) all under Linux Suse 7.3.  Stata 
statistical output  is fine but there is no graphic output. Also, help output 
comes with a lot of almost unreadeble control characters.

Any help very welcome. Thanks in advance
