Process R not running

Dear All,


Wow, I think I believe I just sent a blank message to the list-apologies
all.

I am a brand new user of ESS, reasonably experienced user of R, and new
to XEMACS (Windows version).

When I run R from ESS I get the error message "Process R not running"
just after the "Fontifying *R* message"-that is as far as I get. I have
searched the mailing list archives and read a few suggestions that this
may be a result of permissions problem with UNIX and not passing the
--noreadline option.

Neither of these seem to be the case here so I am looking for other
suggestions.
