online help in R under ESS

I think this topic might have been discussed before, but the question isn't
quite the same...

System info:
WinNT4sp6, R-1.3.1, XEmacs 21.4.3, ESS 5.1.19.

I have one line in my ~/.Rprofile: options(chmhelp=TRUE).  Under stand-alone
R, this gives me the compiled help when I ask for help pages.  It also works
under ESS, but in addition to the HTML Help window, I also get an empty [ESS
help] buffer.  Can this be eliminated?
