Creating '_' in S/R modes

Hi All,

I like the feature of converting a typed '_' to '<-'. However, for various
reasons I sometimes *want* to create the underscore character. Would be
possible to preserve the current behavior translating a single typed
underscore ('_') into '<-' while translating two consecutive underscores
('__') to '_'?
