To build from sources you do

deb-src http://people.debian.org/~kitame/emacs21 ./

and

apt-get source emacs21

change into the build directory and do

dpkg-buildpackage -b -uc -rfakeroot

(or apt-get source -b emacs21)

but the former works more reliably.

The build dependencies are libtool, debhelper (>=2), libc6-dev,
zlib1g-dev, liblockfile-dev, xlib6g-dev, libncurses5-dev and texinfo (not
listed as a build-depend in the dsc file).

OR

To get the binaries

deb http://people.debian.org/~kitame/emacs21 ./

and

apt-get install emacs21 emacs21-el

The debs are for testing/unstable, I think (requires libc6 (>= 2.2.3-1)).
I'm running potato, but the compile for potato went pretty smoothly. If
you don't want to build from sources and are running potato I can put my
potato emacs 21 debs somwhere public you can fetch them from.

                                         Faheem.
