ESS and Splus 6.0 on Solaris 2.6

Hi All:

I am getting ready to install Splus 6.0 on my Sun (Solaris 2.6). I currently
run splus 3.4 using s-mode 4.8 (yes, it is old but it works) with emacs
20.2.3. I would like to replace s-mode 4.8 with the ESS package and use it
to run both 3.4 and 6.0 using my current emacs?.

Is this possible?
Does ESS speak Splus 6.0?

What version of ESS should I get? 5.??.
