infinite loop in xemacs (20.0) w/ ESS for SAS (5.1.18)

ess-help:

Unfortunately, it does not appear to be a Stata-only problem.  If I comment out 
the Stata files, then it just bombs later on when it gets to SAS with a similar 
error message.

This says to me that the function make-regexp is not installed.
