The following message is a courtesy copy of an article
that has been posted to comp.soft-sys.sas as well.

ESS 5.1.16 has been released.

ESS (Emacs Speaks Statistics), is an integrated development
environment for statistical data analysis, programming, and literate
data analysis (using Noweb). It works for Emacs 19.34 and later, and
provides a unified interface for:
        S languages (S, S-PLUS, R);
        SAS;
        Omegahat;
        XLispStat environments (XLispStat, ViSta, Arc)

New features:
- uses "customize" for customizing options
- SAS features cleaned up
- many, many bug fixes

In addition, we'd like to announce that there will be a BOF (birds of
a feather) session at the Joint Statistical Meetings this August in
Indianapolis. At least two of the core developers should be there,
and this would be a fine time to learn about ESS, learn more about
ESS's features, look at how it behaves under Windows (maybe Linux, if
we can find a laptop), for SAS, S-PLUS, and R, and discuss with some
of the developers what features you would like to see in future
versions.

The BOF session is set for Monday, August 14th at 5:30 at the Hyatt in
Salon A. We hope to see you there!
