Quitting sp2000 via emacs ess

Hi All:

Many thanks to Rich Heiberger for his help in getting me squared away with
respect to invoking sp2000 via ess.
I am still having trouble quitting gracefully (i.e, so that win98 will
shutdown properly). My understanding is that one should quit via C-c C-q in
the ESS dde buffer after making it writable. When I do this sp2000 exits
properly, but shutdown of machine hangs and I have to turnoff machine by
hand, thus getting the dreaded 'scandisk' on restart. Using emacs 20.5.1 and
ess 5.1.11. Any help appreciated.
