"Selecting deleted buffer" error

I get a similar message on the PC running NTemacs when I delete the
*tex-shell* buffer.  I cannot restart it.  I also can't figure out
where in emacs the information is stored that the buffer used to exist
and now doesn't.  My solution has also been to kill emacs and start
a new emacs.
