Not to ESS-help, just the "porters" of ESS to other environments:

As Detlef found this morning when trying to get the new ESS into
the Linux SuSE (and indirectly -> Fedora, Redhat) distributions,
the requirement of   emacs-version >= 24.4
has been crippling for him as well (not just Ubuntu 14.04 LTS,
as we knew already).

Luckily, it was found that this whole requirement was an
accident, and after some tests (by Detlef and me), I have
quickly pushed the changes (code + docu) and updated the *.tgz
and *.zip files for ESS

So if you downloaded one of these before 20 minutes ago, please
trash that and re-download from
      https://ess.r-project.org/downloads/

or also directly from the "archives" at

     http://stat.ethz.ch/ESS/downloads/ess/?C=M;O=D

Thank you for making ESS available as package (or via Windows
installer) on the respective platforms!

Martin
