Hm, looks like *R* is stalled. Almost surely not an ESS issue. 

I have added some more informative messages just now. When you svn up,
do (setq ess-verbose t) and execute again. Then look in *ESS* if you see
any peculiar messages like "interrupting subjob ... " or "executing
callback". This is the only functionality related to evaluation which
has been added in last 80 commits of so.
