[ESS-bugs] [ESS] trouble starting ESS

When I submit: M-x ess-sas-interactive, I get the following in a new
*iESS[SAS]* buffer.

sas -rsasuser -altlog .log -altprint .lst -stdio < /dev/tty
speed 38400 baud; rows 0; columns 0; line = 0;
force % sas: Command not found.
force %

In step 2 of the Common Problems site, I get stuck. It doesn't look
like the ess-sas-sh-command works. Dired is working. When I check the
executable path, it says: "/usr/rand/sas92linux/sas". I tried creating
a symlink as it instructed in ~bin, but that didn't change anything.

I am trying to run this on one of my company's machines. I didn't
install ESS, so I can't say for certain whether the instructions were
followed. The person who did install it is out of the office for 10
days. He did install it on at least 2 other machines, and I've never
had a problem with either of them.

Would you recommend I have ESS reinstalled on this machine?

Thanks much for your help troubleshooting!
-Regan

But, which version of ESS is this? I don't see anything obviously
wrong. Did you see this...
http://ess.r-project.org/Manual/ess.html#Requirements
or this...
http://ess.r-project.org/Manual/ess.html#iESS_0028SAS_0029_002d_002dComm
on-problems

Beyond that, what happens if you try M-x ess-sas-interactive in a fresh
emacs?
