If I knew where the bug was, that would be half the battle, but I recall
spending a few hours in 2003/4 trying to find the problem without
success!  I guess it is somewehere in the comint code, but I'm afraid
its a mystery to me... & unless we can get a short simple example of it
not reliant on ESS< it aint likely to be fixed by emacs-devel gurus - I
fear the intersection of ESS users and emacs-devel members may be 1 -
me!
