I fully agree that we should and do support S-Plus 6.2.  That doesn't
cancel the fact that 6.2 is from April 2004 and the current release
7.0.6 is December 2005, with the S-Plus 8.0beta already out for testing.

S-Plus 6.1 and newer have identical interfaces with ESS.  The only changes
we need in ESS are the variable names identifying the pathname of the
executables.
