Please keep ESS-bugs in the loop. Several of the other members are xemacs users.
ESS-bugs is read by about 10 people, the developers of ESS. The list that has many
readers is ESS-help. Quite frequently you will get good responses from that list
as well.
Please send more info. essd-sp6w.el begins by requiring essl-s.el, the file that defines
S+common-cust-alist. Therefore I am puzzled that you getting a report about it not
being defined.
Which version of ESS are you using?
C-h v ess-version RET
You said "The error appears to come when it tries to load the
file essd-splw6." Please send the output statements surrounding the one that led
you to that conclusion.
Also, comment out (with leading ;;;) the load line from init.el.
Then close xemacs and start xemacs fresh.
enter
M-x set-variable RET debug-on-error RET t RET
Open the init.el and place the cursor immediately after the
")" on the commented out load line and enter
C-x C-e
This should chug along and eventually quit. Send the backtrace buffer
to the ESS-bugs list.
