Are you really familiar with ESS and SAS to want to run it interactively?  I'm
guessing you really don't (it's the "old fashioned" 3-split screen
view, rather limited, and it's only available as a hack on Unix).

If you are certain of it, what OS are you using, and where have you
put ESS?   In "/"?
