[BioC] Table values in R

Hi,

I have an excel file containing Gene name, Regulation, Breed and Time. I
have two breeds that I 
Have symbolised 1=Pietrain and 2=landrace and I also symbolised 7 time
points, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 for 
2,4,8,12,16,24,30 hours that the samples were taken. My problem is that
I want to create a table 
with Time min, Time max for each gene per Breed and I can't think of a
way of doing it.
I know that range() could be a solution but how can it be applied to
each row (each gene) and consider
both breed and time range? Any ideas?
