[BioC] x11() failure on recent R builds

The problem bit me a couple of times on r2.2+ builds on redhat/centos
4.x machines where the default us.utf8 lang setting seems to make R
unhappy about loading X - I kludged a workaround by setting LANG=en.us
in my shell to get rid of the utf stuff which I don't understand enough
to fix properly.
