The following position is available within the John Innes Centre, UK. 

POST-DOCTORAL TRAINING FELLOW (Bioinformatician)

Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Training Fellow required to join a new group developing new algorithms and software tools to analyse 3D protein structure with the goal of extracting additional information for protein function prediction. The post holder will use many standard tools to address specific functional questions as well as carry out large scale analyses across diverse protein families. 

Candidates should have a PhD in bioinformatics or computational biology and up to 3 years post-doctoral experience with a good knowledge of either protein structure/crystallography or mathematical modeling. They will need excellent programming/scripting skills with the ability to develop independent ideas and to find solutions to complex problems together with the ability to read and understand literature from different scientific fields. Good communication and organizational skills are also required. The post holder will receive additional professional development training as well as on-the-job training and mentoring. The successful applicant will benefit from the specific elements of training leading to the JIC post-doctoral training certificate.

This is a 3 year position offered under the terms of the BBSRC Training and Career Development Scheme. Salary on appointment will be within the range £22,351 to £25,767 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. The post currently attracts an additional retention and recruitment allowance from £3,800 to £6,000 per annum depending on starting salary, in place until 31 Dec 2005. JIC offers a choice of final salary and stakeholder pensions.
