Hi Mick,

did you get the package file from the website www.bioconductor.org?
There, e.g. on the page "The Bioconductor Project Release Package Index",
you could have read "Requires R 1.7.1 or later" in the first line of that
page. Quite a lot has changed between R 1.6 and 1.7, so this is not an
idle requirement.
