I think you could do the reverse of step 5 and do something like

git push origin devel:master

which basically says push to the origin remote and map the current devel branch to the master branch there.

Subject: [Bioc-devel] New Contribution Trouble with Git/GitHub

Hi all,

This is my first time contributing a package to Bioconductor. When pushing changes, I accidentally pushed to origin/devel, rather than origin/master, and then proceeded to delete the devel branch on GitHub. Is there a way to fix it so that the latest changes are pushed to the repo's master branch? I tried git push origin master, but it says it is up to date without actually modifying the master branch. Note: I did successfully push changes to upstream/devel, and the automatic package builder successfully built the package without issues; I had just failed to read slightly ahead in step #5 of https://secure-web.cisco.com/1eblklbXIQ-h3DRY3ogbeLn1lWuoHymX8KKPvtgYTYKwS97uX05Vv9GYMDvz8Cath0rv8K97mxD2xNaa-1sRuTNR2_SHd_979wFWdlLf7KsPAtv9LRH9BimHMtcgobkNK7ApP4iNk-1JtsZT4K96bhXT1SttWTSu1BMWre7oku10Gyak0X-EvgJWOLrHqXZ7c8QmHGVDH2MDfv_VuFEeUMLBFhqShwow_acACRe4gYUHHltwbJOWM7zJ_Rj4y0hrQpkYg8VrFqPmGjb0QmU8Jcrvg-jJ8oVO7ifPa4WEyBchnUOCMhQzcrEWzJ5R0B5qS/https%3A%2F%2Fcontributions.bioconductor.org%2Fgit-version-control.html%23new-package-workflow

Thanks,
Tyler
