Place: All sessions will be in Padelford C-301.
Equipment: There will be an overhead projector for slides. I will
also bring a laptop and data projector. If you want to do the
presentation on the computer, please put your file on a USB stick or
email it to me a day before your presentation.

MEAP93 math test data
- Research statement: We are going to determine whether the percentage of students passing the high school
MEAP math test has a strong association with characteristics of the high
school such as the percentage of
students participating in a school's lunch program, school enrollment, number of staff, etc.
- Group 2: Katie, Paul and Troy
- Data: Data set 'debt' in the R-package
Faraway.
- Research statement: We intend to find out if people's
attitude on debt is associated with factors such as the indiviual's income
group, housing situation, number of children, etc.

- Data: Taken from the book "Meaningful differences in the everyday experience of young american children" by
Betty Hart and Todd R. Risley.
- Research question: Does the amount of words a child is exposed to within the first three years of
his/her life predict how well the child scores on the "Test of language development" in third grade,
controlling for ethnicity and socioeconomic circumstances?
- Group 5: John, Kerne and Ngan Ha Thi
- Data: Data from the Highway Safety Information System
containing records of all car
accidents occurring on rural state routes in the state of Washington between 1999 and 2004 inclusive.
- Research questions: Which factors predict an increased rate of accidents on two-lane highways in Washington
State? Do certain factors cause accidents?
- Group 6: Ju-yeon and Steve
- Data:
Doing Business
database containing GDP growths for countries and rankings on
different types of business regulations in each country.
- Research question: Which type of business regulations are correlated with high
levels of growth in GDP?
- Group 7: Hui Yu, Jwuo Chin and Kelly
- Group 8: Gallagher and Maria
- Data: Apartment data from the REIS database
- Research statement: We intend to predict the unit rent for a given property in Seattle based on its
amenities. We also want to study the causal relationship between amenities and unit rent.
