SYSTAT is a comprehensive, general purpose statistical software, which covers the majority of well established statistical and graphical methods. Almost all commands are available through menu controls, which makes the program easy to use. To simplify routine processes commands can also be coded in command files. SYSTAT allows also for the implementation of code segments for data input and processing, e.g. using BASIC. However this feature cannot be compared with the possibilities of larger products like R/S Plus or SAS. We do recommend SYSTAT due to its user friendliness and its rather extensive collection of methods, for users, which are looking for an easy to learn program without abandoning a wide choice of statistical methods. SYSTAT is not suitable for users, who want to write their own functions and want to solve complex data manipulation tasks.
Especially worth mentioning are the esthetic and well thought-through graphical features of SYSTAT. In the first chapter "Graphics" of the SYSTAT manual one learns about the visual stimulus processing of humans and about designing informative and serious graphics.
SigmaPlot (Windows version) is available through IDES for Sfr 40.-. The license is also valid for other research facilities. Here you can find more details.
The Seminar for Statistics offers no consulting for SYSTAT and there is also no course available.
Importing data from Excel
SYSTAT can read Excel files. There will be no problems, if the following points are respected:
Data can be imported using: "File -> Open -> Data ...", after "Files of type: Microsoft Excel (.xls)" was selected.
