This one-day course is offered as a so-called "waiting list course" without a specified date. As soon as the minimum of 10 attendees is reached, we propose two possible course-dates and then determine the course date that suits most registered attendees. This course is thought to be further education for ETH and external staff and is subject to a course fee.

Course dates and registration are administered by the ETH Kurswesen.

Course Overview

PASW Statistics (formerly SPSS) is one of the most widely used statistic programs. It is well suited for the analysis of categorical data. Origally, PASW Statistics was developed for applications in social sciences. Today a broad range of procedures are offered covering most fields of statistics. PASW Statistics features a graphical user interface and is easy to use. There is also the possibility to run analyses via a sytax language. This not only adds the possibility to reproduce analyses but also offers access to more, less frequently used options that are not available otherwise. For advanced users we recommend the use of the syntax language.

Audience
The course is aimed at PASW Statistics beginners and users that want to use PASW Statistics more efficiently.

Course goals
Basics of PASW Statistics. The course will focus mainly on the graphical user interface.

Agenda

Requirements
Basic knowledge of statistics (you should have an idea of the following expressions: sample, normal distribution, expectation, variance, median, null hypothesis, p-value, t-test, confidence interval, linear regression model, analysis of variance). We will give some explanation of the mentioned concepts, but the focus will lie on the use of PASW Statistics.
